Hay que decir que el récord del concurso será difícil de superar. Hasta hoy, lo ostenta Abraham Van der Horst con aquella corvina negra de 25,450 kg, lograda en el Caracolero en la edición 22ª de 1983. Es la más grande, según lo que indica la clasificación, pero algunos dicen que otra fue la más grandes en realidad, y mencionan a la capturada por Raúl Massigoge, en el Letrero, justo diez años antes, de 24,575 kg.
Por aquel entonces, contaba el querido “Popi” Guido en las páginas del Diario La Voz del Pueblo, las piezas se entregaban al control a las 5 de la tarde del día siguiente. Por lo tanto, se calcula que por lo menos, ese ejemplar, habría perdido entre 4 y 5 kilogramos, por lo que su peso debería haber estado cercano a los 30 kilos. Fue una duda que les quedó a todos los presentes en aquellos tiempos.
Ese año 73 se dio un hecho anecdótico. Por un temporal, “Las 24” se hicieron el mismo día que Las 16 del Club de Pesca Tres Arroyos. Ambas entidades se habían puesto de acuerdo y un pescador, Francisco Chedrese, se anotó en los dos concursos. Pancho bajó en su Citroneta en Dunamar y ahí nomás se quedó encajado. Debió conformarse con pescar en los primeros canales y como alguien dijo una vez «ahí estaba la negra». Sacó un ejemplar de 18 kg, que no sólo lo ubicó en el segundo lugar, sino que fue el ganador de Las 16 del Club de Pesca. Cosas de Las 24, decía «Popi».
