Es uno de los peces más buscados por los aficionados en la pesca deportiva en el mar
tanto desde la playa como embarcado, en esta modalidad los portes son más grandes y presentan un combate más intenso, reconocido por los continuos cabezazos que en la mayoría de las capturas obligan a aflojar el freno del reel, evitando así un temprano corte del nailon si no es de un grosor adecuado o falto de calidad, con la consiguiente pérdida de la presa. Se pescan hasta finalizado el otoño, navegan y permanecen en la corriente cálida que nos llega del Brasil. Su nombre científico es
Microgonias furnieri, y el nombre de rubia lo tiene bien puesto por su color que la diferencia de su prima hermana, la negra Pogonias Chromis y de alta alcurnia o élite por ser tan esquiva y solicitada por los aficionados o por las redes comerciales; además se diferencia por su tamaño notablemente menor, por la cantidad que circula en cardúmenes y por su sabrosa carne.

La abundante presencia de almejas en la arena hizo que las últimas temporadas la pesca de la especie fuera muy buena, desde San Clemente hasta las playas del sur. Cuando las condiciones del mar fueron acordes, se registraron excelentes pescas en toda la región, con muy buena calidad en las playas de Marisol, Claromecó, Reta y Orense. Gran expectativa en este mes de noviembre, con tres torneos en dichas costas, donde hay muchisimo dinero en juego para quienes logren las corvinas de mayor peso: El Club de Pesca Tres Arroyos tiene su concurso el domingo 3, con $ 100,000 al ganador. Oriente F.C entrega $ 380.000 en Marisol el 10, a quien pesque la mejor corvina y, por último, el domingo 17 el Instituto Almafuerte de Copetonas organiza un evento con más de un millón de pesos en premios y $ 350,000 que gratificaran al ganador.

La bahía Samborombon es concentración de inmensos cardúmenes que aprovechan la primavera- verano para su reproducción, fenómeno fácil de comprobar después, ya que en los meses de enero a marzo se extraen juveniles de 10 a 20 cm. de largo, ávidos para alimentarse y crecer en dicha zona. Ya adultas su peso promedio está en el kilo y medio a dos kilos, rubias y blancas, peso que se duplica cuando aparecen las doradas de grandes escamas. Este caballito de batalla se aproxima a las costas, preferentemente con el mar en creciente y llega a circular en la primera canaleta hasta una hora posterior a la pleamar, busca almejas, lombrices de mar en los pedregales o se conforma con calamaretes, camarones, langostinos o toda otra especie que complete su dieta, ya que hasta cangrejos, dientudos, anchoitas y diversos filetes le son apetecibles.

Su utilidad gastronómica es de primer nivel, nadie la descarta y su cocción es de diferentes formas. Su pesca no requiere equipos sofisticados o de gran poder, al contrario, es espectacular el combate que presenta cuando se la captura con equipo liviano desde la costa, muelle o escollera, Sólo hay que tener la precaución de agotarla con mucha suavidad cuando se utiliza un nailon inferior al 0,25, donde es fundamental regular el freno del reel.

Siempre es recomendado el uso de un chicote tipo cola de ratón 0,35 a 0,60 / 0,70 mm, que puede ser transfilado ó bien pegado, con una carga del reel de un nylon de calidad de un grosor que va del 0,23 mm al 0,35 mm y permite arrojar a mucha distancia una plomada de 125 a 175 gramos, dependiendo de las condiciones del mar. Esos 11 metros nos brindaran seguridad en la batalla final de la presa, sin peligro de cortes. Los anzuelos pueden ser entre un 2/0 al 6/0, los denominados pata larga ó los tradicionales corvineros o garra de águila que muchos cañofilos usan. Marcas japonesas importantes como Owner, con sus Cutting Point; Sakuma ó Gamakatzu, entre tantas otras, ofrecen anzuelos de primer nivel a precios hoy algo elevados si pescamos en sectores donde el enganche es una constante.
