Iniciamos una nueva sección en Planeta Pesca donde nos meteremos en la vida de grandes amigos y referentes en la Pesca Deportiva.. Hoy les traemos un mano a mano imperdible con Wilmar Merino, encargado del suplemento de «Viva la Pesca» de Diario Popular y colaborador de muchos medios como Weekend, entre otros. Sin dudas una nota muy jugosa, la primera de esta sección de notas semanales.

Cuéntenos algo de usted..?? Cuando comenzó a pescar..?? Cómo nació su amor por la Pesca..??

Nació de niño, cuando mi papá Rubén me llevaba a las sedes de la Asociación Argentina de Pesca. Mi primer recuerdo es de la sede Viamonte, por aquel entonces un fino camino de madera, tablones separados y precariedad total, donde con mi madre y hermano quedábamos en la costa compartida con el Yacht Club, mojarreando y esperando a mi papá, que venía de la punta con manduvas, dorados o algún cachorro. Era un pesquero excepcional en los 70, donde con un simple Sonar podías lograr el trofeo de tu vida. Allí, en sede Viamonte, comencé a aprender los rudimentos de la pesca, mojarreando, consiguiéndole a mi papá los ansiados bagrecitos amarillos que eran sinónimos de buen dorado. Luego comenzamos a frecuentar el anexo Chavarri, en dársena norte, donde se lograban bogas de novela en la mítica Villa Tokio (la zona de la punta, muy frecuentada por pescadores japoneses), en la olla (un mítico ámbito de spinning) y en el Fierro, donde estaba prohibido pescar: era la punta del muelle, derruida por el accionar de las olas, donde había que colgarse a caballito de un fierro colgante y hacer spinning desde allí. Era un lugar peligroso, entrada al puerto de Buenos Aires, con 30 metros de profundidad… ¡y una corredera llena de dorados, cachorros y surubíes!. Había que meterse de contrabando y antes de las 8 de la mañana salir, porque era la hora que llegaba el Chancho. Te podían suspender del club si te veían. Lo cierto es que toda mi infancia fue signada por ese mundo subacuático misterioso en donde comencé a ver que quien sabía más de peces podía leer allí. Ya con mi primera bici, comencé a ir a los lagos de Palermo, primero a pescar chanchitas, que luego ponía en un tanque y las respescaba mil veces “para ver cómo picaban” y mas tarde compré mis primeras cucharitas y arranqué con taruchas en el lago del Rosedal y el del Golf, haciendo realidad ese deseo de Zapico Antuña quien proponía usar los lagos de Palermo como escuelas de pesca. En forma paralela, me convertí en acuarista, heredando también una tradición familiar, y con el tiempo llegué a tener chafalotes a los que alimentaba para ver cómo comían y entender porqué escupían los señuelos. Como ves, era un apasionado del mundo de los peces.

Tuvo maestros dentro de la Pesca..??

Siempre hay iniciadores en esto. A veces voluntariamente y en otras por imitación. Mi viejo y mi hermano fueron las primeras referencias. Pero me di cuenta muy rápido que mi pasión por esto era mayor que la de ellos. Así, me fui arrimando a viejos socios del club que amaban {este deporte. César Gallardo fue el primero. Don César, a quien le escribí un cuento para un libro, pescaba dorados con balancín y era un gran relator. También con él arranqué como proveedor de bagrecitos para carnada, y luego me fui nutriendo de sus historias. Pero la parte “teórica” que me cambió la cabeza fue el libro Spinning pesca Calificada, de Roberto Zapico Antuña. El me hizo desear pescar con señuelos, hablaba de la escasez de dorados, de introducir el black Bass, de usar los lagos palermitanos como escuela… fue un avanzado a su tiempo a quien no pude conocer personalmente. Otro libro que me llenaba los tiempos sin pesca –en rigor, uno siempre “está pescando” porque si no está en el agua piensa en pescar y donde ve un corcho se imagina una boya- fue el Manual de Pesca de Juán Martín de Yániz, periodista de Weekend con gran vocación docente. Ya en la adolescencia fui incorporando nuevos referentes que tenían que ver con la pesca con artificiales, que eran socios del club que pescaban en la olla o el fierro. Comencé a traer señuelos de Cabela´s, a lograr mejores capturas… en fín, a enloquecer por la pesca con artificiales. He llegado a ir 15 días seguidos en bicicleta desde mi casa en Villa Crespo al puerto, tratando de llegar antes de las 4AM para ocupar un lugar de privilegio en El Fierro. Tenía miedo… el puerto Madero hoy es un lujo… antes me corrían jaurías de perros semi salvajes que me garroneaban los talones mientras pedaleaba. ¡A veces llevaba un pedazo de corazón vacuno para tirarles y que me dejaran de joder!. Y a la rata mas chica la podían domar en Jesús María. Pero tener un cachorro del otro lado del hilo,a los 12 -13 años, compensaba todo…

¿Como ve la transformación de los medios informativos del genero de ayer a hoy?

Es evidente que hubo una revolución informativa importante, así como en otros ámbitos informativos. Si antes esperabas una semana un programa de pesca en radio o un pirulito en un diario importante, hoy tenés pesca a toda hora y en todo lugar. Todos los días hay programas o columnas de pesca en radio, medios gráficos que van de boletines de clubes a revistas especializadas, pasando por los programas de TV específicos o la infinidad de portales de internet o blogs dedicados al género. De esa explosión informativa surge un nuevo problema parecido al bombardeo de medios dedicados al fútbol: hay que separar la paja del trigo, saber dónde informarse, en quien confiar y no perderse en una maraña de voces intrascendentes que poco aportan. Pero lo cierto es que hoy la información se ha socializado como nunca y el lector/televidente tiene forma de interactuar con los responsables de los medios o devenir protagonista haciendo su propia producción de contenidos..

Pensando a futuro.. ¿cómo ve la pesca deportiva en un par de años?

Profundizando tendencias que se evidencian hoy: con un número creciente de aficionados demandantes de buen pique y ámbitos cada vez mas presionados, reducidos y devaluados, ya sea por sobre explotación pesquera (comercial y deportiva) y contaminación creciente. Lamentablemente no se ven políticas tendientes a preservar el recurso, controles al pescador deportivo y comercial, políticas de siembra adecuadas, etc. Nadie sabe para qué sirve realmente pagar el permiso de pesca. No solo deberíamos pagarlo para evitar sanciones, sino por el placer de ver que se traduce en obras o siembras. Si en EEUU hay 60 millones de licencias y cada pescador sacrificara una trucha por año, habría 60 millones de truchas menos en los cursos. Es evidente que si no hay políticas de resiembra el recurso se agota.

Por eso, de cara al futuro y en un país como el nuestro, cada vez vamos a tener mejores elementos para pescar, más información, mas ansiedad por buenas jornadas de pesca, y menos oportunidad de satisfacerlas. Lo que tenga pesca se cotizará y la cosa se hará cada vez mas prohibitiva como lo vemos hoy en día con las buenas lagunas. En cuando a desafíos, hay que redescubrir el mar e incorporar definitivamente a la mujer a la pesca deportiva. Creo que la sensibilidad e inteligencia femeninas le aportaría nuevos puntos de vista al deporte e influiría en las políticas futuras de preservación del recurso. Lamentablemente las comunas ven tarde la importancia de contar con la bendición de un pesquero rendidor como fuente de ingresos por turismo y aún aquellas que vienen entendiéndolo hace años ven que en las fiestas del dorado y surubí se logran muy pocas capturas en relación a las cañas inscriptas. Esos sí, se vanaglorian de los números que movió la pesca deportiva, pero no desarrollan una política seria de preservación del recurso… es inconcebible, por ejemplo, que Corrientes, Santa Fe, Chaco y Entre Ríos no logren concensuar una veda pesquera y cedan a las presiones de las empresas exportadoras de pescado para acabar con lo que queda del Paraná. En 2007 tuvimos una emergencia pesquera, en 2008 una sequía histórica y en 2009…¡abrimos la exportación!. Pese a que funcionarios digan que el recurso aguanta, la verdad es que el mundo demanda pescado y exportar es abrirnos a una demanda infinita teniendo un recurso muy finito y depredado. Lo que está claro es que el recurso se acaba y no estamos apostando al turismo de pesca como recurso sino a saquear lo que queda y que se arreglen las futuras generaciones como puedan

¿Que es hoy Internet para el pescador?

Una herramienta informativa tremenda cuya importancia dependerá del uso que le de el usuario. A mí me sirve para trabajar, para que las fotos lleguen a las revistas antes de que yo regrese a mi ciudad de origen, para compartir información, chequear datos, informarme y entretenerme. Pero en un país como el nuestro donde el periodismo no está colegiado y cualquiera se imprime una gorrita, compra una handycam o se paga una hora de aire en una radio o construye un website, hay de todo y muchas veces el periodismo de pesca no cuenta con la jerarquía que merecería tener entre nuestros deportes. Veo mucha sanata y en ello especialmente se lleva las palmas internet, donde el “copiar/ pegar” es una costumbre generalizada, donde la “pelea de foro” es un deporte nacional y en donde hay mucho pescador “de escritorio” que pontifica sin mojarse los pies mas que un par de veces al año. Una o dos veces por semana recibo “invitaciones” a poner mis materiales en diversos portales, para “mi publicidad”. La lectura que hago de eso es que es mas fácil armar el portal que salir a pescar regularmente y abastecerlo de data actualizada… ahí es donde los webmaster necesitan de quienes van al agua. Salvo muy honrosas excepciones de plumas que tienen la enorme generosidad de compartir lo que saben, en general Internet me ha desilusionado en materia de pesca deportiva. Pero insisto en la idea de que, haciendo finas selecciones y un buen uso de la herramienta, internet es invalorable para conectarnos en comunidad, compartir experiencias y aprender juntos.

¿Por que pescar y devolver?

Para auto-sustentar el recurso y por convencimiento interno de que la satisfacción está en el engaño y no en el sacrificio. El aplauso es interior, no hay que demostrarle nada a nadie más que a uno mismo. Tenemos métodos de registro para compartir nuestras aventuras (fotos, videos) que hacen innecesario matar al pez. Además, por nobleza, debemos agradecerle a ese compañero subacuático que nos brindó un momento agradable, tratándolo con cuidado al devolverlo a su medio y permitiéndole continuar su ciclo de vida.

¿Una anécdota entre tantas que quiera compartir?

De niño ,a los 8 o 9 años, una paliza memorable me la gané al pedirle a mi viejo que me llevase a pescar cuando se acababa de tirar a dormir la siesta. Como no me dio bolilla, tomé monedas de su bolsillo, armé un equipito, me fui al Planetario a pescar tarariras, y volví de noche, con un triple pinchado en el dedo gordo. No eran tiempos de celulares… mi familia no sabía qué había pasado conmigo. Al volver, antes de que pudiera hablar, me voló la primera cachetada…. en medio de la paliza mis padres ven que venía herido y se arrepintieron. Terminamos en el hospital, sacándome el anzuelo. Entendieron que lo mío iba en serio…

Otra: En la adolescencia, colgado del Fierro a última hora, estaba absolutamente solo. Tendría unos 15 años. Logré un hermoso chafalote y descubrí que me había colgado sin tener una pinza para sacar el anzuelo. Lo intenté con los dedos y pasó lo que tenía que pesar, el chafa sacudió la cabeza y me ensartó dos triples en la mano. Comencé a gritar pero… estábamos a la hora del ocaso y no había nadie. Con la mano que tenía sana, apreté bien fuerte el cuello del chafa hasta matarlo y quebrarle la columna. El dolor era insoportable. Bajé del fierro como pude, ensangrentado y con la cabeza del chafa en mi mano, con el señuelo enganchado. Caminé kilómetros hasta la salida del puerto y un buen samaritano me llevó a una dependencia de Prefectura donde no había anestesia… me sacaron los triples a lo guapo. Sufrí muchísimo. Al otro día, a las 4 de la mañana, con la mano vendada y tras haber tomado antibióticos, fui en la bici a buscar mi caña antes de que otro socio la encontrase primero.

Por suerte, años después, mis anécdotas fueron mejorando y terminando con final feliz, jiji.

Un deseo:

Recuperar el Río de la Plata y en Riachuelo para los porteños y bonaerenses. Mi ciudad, a la que amo y odio al mismo tiempo, ha crecido dándole la espalda al río. No tenemos costanera, ni rambla, ni paseos que nos permitan incorporar una identidad ribereña. En cambio, tenemos un aeropuerto cada vez mas grande y un puerto que nos niegan la visual del horizonte en el río. Y como no se puede amar lo que no se conoce, nuestro río es nuestro tacho de basura. Tomamos agua del inodoro… sacamos agua para consumo a metros de donde tiramos desechos cloacales. Limpiar el agua de consumo está costando cada vez más. Siempre en mis notas uso la frase “El Riopla, agredido como pocos y rendidor como ninguno” para describirlo. Y no es para menos, este año hay una explosión de doradillos, que sucedió e una memorable temporada de pesca de pejerreyes gigantes. Hay bagres de mar, patíes gigantes, corvinas rubias, bogas. Tenemos una bendición delante de los ojos… pero la desidia y los intereses comerciales pueden más. El parque Industrial de Pilar que contamina el río Luján, puede más que la intención de millones de bonaerenses por tener un río limpio. Y el monumento a la vergüenza que es el Riachuelo, me duele día a día. Deseo desde que nací ver éstos ríos con vida a pleno. Buenos Aires con playa y pesca, sería la ciudad perfecta.
